Upgrade to WordPress 2.7

The latest version of WordPress, WordPress 2.7 – codenamed “Coltrane” – is now ready for download. I prepared a short guide on upgrading to WordPress 2.7. Plus I compiled the latest posts on WordPress 2.7 by some remarkable bloggers.

Should You Upgrade Immediately?

Unlike the previous upgrades, WordPress.org suggests you to upgrade to the 2.7 release immediately. Because it has already been tested on 5 million blogs over the past week. So you don’t need to worry whether it is stable or not. It is the most stable WordPress release ever, and it includes the latest security updates.

Currently I use WordPress 2.6.5, and I am planning to finish the upgrade process by the end of this weekend. It is vital that you upgrade WordPress immediately because:

  • Your future upgrades will be a lot easier.
  • Your blog will be more secure.
  • It has easy WordPress Theme and Plugin upgrades features, additions, and news, etc.
  • Note that major search engine Google is considering penalizing Google Page Rank due to using an old version of WordPress which causes security vulnerabilities.

If you are using an older version of WordPress, you need to follow the instructions in the , which is the online manual for WordPress Users, in Upgrading WordPress. You may upgrade to WordPress  2.7 now.

What Has Already Been Said?

Here are the latest blog posts and comments regarding the latest release of WordPress. They provide some very good tips and tricks on WordPress 2.7:

I will keep you updated about WordPress 2.7. Make sure that you subscribe to Search For Blogging RSS feeds or follow my Twitter so that you won’t miss any last minute update.

First of all, LOVE the images! Wow…… anyhow, thanks for the info on the new version. I am usually apprehensive, my first upgrade with WP was not pretty. All due to my lack of experience. :)

I have not yet upgraded to the latest version. Must do it real soon! I am considering installing the Wp automatic upgrade plugin!

Upgraded to WordPress 2.7, love it. I was using some Plugins to make the Dashboard more easier to navigate, not anymore. The update was a breeze using the WP Automatic Upgrade Plugin.

@Roland: Agree, it is getting better and better…

@ Rampantheart: Don’t forget to backup your existing WP before the upgrade, even if you use WP automatic upgrade plugin. Always expect the unexpected :)
