The most popular bloggers are very good at copywriting. As a blogger, even if you don’t name yourself as problogger, you are still selling your readers with your words and writing style. Your blog headlines must be compelling so that your readers buy, and continue reading the full post.

Most of the time our visitors are coming from a feed aggregator like Feedburner. They rarely visit your blog directly to check your latest posts. If your headlines do not get their attention, you can not generate enough page views.

How To Write Killer Blog Headlines

Here are some great formulas for writing blog headlines that get attention:

Solve a common problem: Address a painful problem or a desire that your readers might have. Take a look at your reader’s comments, and find the most common problems. Use this blog headline formula to address them: “Here’s a Quick Way to…………. “

Use quotes: Quotes usually draw attention. Find a quote related to your blog post, and use it.

How-To formulas: These are my favorite. Who doesn’t like a good how to post?

Ask tricky questions: Ask questions which your readers can not answer unless they read the full post. They will be eager to read the rest of the story. A good example is, “Did You Read The Top 5 Blogging Books?”. You are done!

Use human psychology:“Who Else Wants……?” is a good formula. It is based on social proof, and subliminally tells your readers that so many people already read the post.

I am sure you will find other formulas all around the Web, so I cut it here. If you master above mentioned strategies in the shortest time possible, it will be more than enough. I guarantee you will drive much more traffic to your blog then before.

Some might say the headlines are the most important aspect of your blog posts. The others say content is much more important compared to blog headlines. Even if you write a killer headline, you still need to write something that adds value to your readers in the body of your post. Otherwise most of your first time visitors will never come back to your blog. Here are a few good tips for writing a successful blog post:

Share your experiences as generously as possible. People will recognize them, and depend on your knowledge.

Write short posts. Even if there are some popular bloggers like Steve Pavlina who never write less than 700 words, you should know that your readers have so little attention span. On the other hand you are not Steve Pavlina. 300-400 words articles are pretty good.

Use lists. Your readers will catch the most important parts of your posts easily.

Write timeless posts. They should not become outdated in a year.

Announce breaking news; always try to be the first one.

Learn, read, write. Until you become the expert in your field.

Write good posts which people would like to ready and share with their friends.

Limit your paragraphs with 6-8 sentences. It makes reading a lot easier.

Never forget making a spellcheck before posting.

Post one article each day. This is not only good for increasing your readers, but also yours will become a VIP blog in the eyes of Google.

These are my tips on writing a successful blog post. Now it is your turn. Please tell me your tips on writing a successful blog post.
