Why Should You Add A Google Sitemap To Your Blog?
Posted by Mert Erkal on Feb 27, 2009 in Search Engine Optimization | 5 commentsWhen you submit your blog to Google, you must also include a Google Sitemap. This specific sitemap is in a XML format and it allows Google robots to crawl your site more easily and efficiently. Meaning, a Google Sitemap will definitely bring more free traffic to your blog. The best of all, it is also recognized by other search engines like MSN, Yahoo, and Ask.
You can use Google XML Sitemaps plugin to add a Google Sitemap to your blog.
- Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/
- Download the plugin.
- Once you’ve installed and activated it, select XML-Sitemap under Settings in your admin area.
- At the top of the page, click the link to generate the sitemap for the first time (no need to change any of the settings).
- You should see a success message.
- View the sitemap you just created at http://yourlocalhost/wordpress/sitemap.xml.
If you can afford only $17 , you can also try Google Sitemap Maker Software which provides even better indexing for your blog posts.

Help Google, anyway you can. It will pay off.
Great post.
A few simple steps and a great WordPress plugin that will automatically build a sitemap for your blog and notify Google of all your new posts….
Thanks for the info. How long does it take before I will benefit?
Probably a week or two Mike…
Sitemaps are a way to notify Google about pages on your site.
I suggest it to every webmaster wanting to create a super-fast html sitemap for their website, or a Google xml sitemap.
