How To Make Money With Blogs – Part 1

I get asked how bloggers make money with blogs on a regular basis. As your blog’s traffic levels grow, you start to see some potential for revenue generation. There is an amazing diversity of opportunities which are opening up for bloggers to make money with blogs almost every single day. What you’ll find below are the top income streams for many bloggers.
This is one of the largest advertising programs available to bloggers. In a nutshell, Adsense matches ads to your blog’s content and you make money when your visitors click on them. Nowadays it may not be the most profitable form of advertising for many bloggers, but you can still generate a steady income from Adsense. Actually it is ideal for the bloggers who promote and review digital products. Darren Rowse is making substantial income from Adsense with his blog Digital Photography School because he usually reviews the most popular digital cameras.
How To Start Google Adsense
First of all, you need to sign up for an AdSense account.
- Go to http://www.google.com/adsense
- Click on the Sign up now link
- Fill out the registration form.
- Check the registration form, and complete submission.
- Google will then review your application, and contact you within a few days to let you know if you are accepted to Adsense or not.
- Note that Google can reject your blog if your blog content breaches their terms of service (pornography, spam, etc)
How To Learn Google Adsense
- I suggest you to start with reading Joel Comm’s Adsense Secrets. It is accepted as the Google Adsense bible.
- Also take a Google Adsense tour.
How To Use Adsense in WordPress
You can simply copy and paste the Adsense code into a text widget. However, if you are looking for an advanced management of your AdSense units, then you shall install a plugin called AdSense Manager. This little plugin allows you to create and edit AdSense ads from your blog’s WordPress admin area. It is not necessary for you to log in to your Google Adsense account. It is a huge time saver. It gives a lot of flexibility for the placement of your ads either in pages, posts or in widgets.
- Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/adsense-manager/
- Download the plugin.
- Unzip the package and upload the adsense-manager folder in the plugins directory for your blog.
- Log in, and activate the plugin.
- Click the Settings tab, and then the AdSense Manager sub-tab.
- On the AdSense Manager Options page, click on the Manage Ad Units link from within the Getting Started section.
- Do the necessary adjustments, and place your Adsense codes to anywhere you desire.
- You are done!
In the next part, I will tell you more about the Affiliate Programs where many bloggers (including me) are making steady and regular income. Stay tuned for more make money blogging opportunities.

Maybe I am missing it, but I just went over to Darren’s site and couldn’t find the adsense (maybe he is only targeting traffic from organic search).
What I did find was he is an amazon affiliate and has a link going to amazon for each camera (I bet he is doing the long tail thing and grabbing highly targeted traffic with his long tail.)
I was actually wondering to myself why he wouldn’t go this route anyway….after all, according to marketing sherpa, the average CTR for an adsense website is around 2.8%. If you consider that he might get $1 per click, and his site gets roughly 350k US visitors a month, that would be $9,800 per month.
Alternatively, a $399.00 camera would be worth roughly $28.00 per sale as an affiliate….Since the page is highly targeted for buyers that know exactly what they want, you would think that the conversion rate would be pretty high.
…and that is just one page. (he has hundreds)….

Hey hey, hope all is well with you my friend. I’ve never need a adsense fan but might give it a try- if used I’ll be sure to use it with tact. The last thing I want is crazy adsense ads all over the place- it turns me off so why should I subject others to what I myself dislike.
Cheers,
-Mig
