Twshot

I am one of the biggest supporters of Twitter. I must admit that it made no sense at all to me at the very beginning. Months later I realized that it can be one of the most effective ways of promoting my blog and myself. If used properly, Twitter can create preeminence for yourself as well. All you need is to add value to your followers with your regular and daily Twitter posts.

However, the worst thing about Twitter is you need to shorten the long URL addresses because you are limited to 140 characters in total. It is more or less like sending an online telegraph. Therefore when you try to post your message and the long URL address at the same time, you can easily exceed 140 characters. In such a case, most of the Twitter users go to sites like Tinyurl.com to shorten their URL, and then post the shortened URL address and the message via Twitter. This used to take much of the Twitter users valuable time.

Thanks to Twshot.com, now you can place a link on your toolbar where you can easily add URL addresses into your Twitter account. I am simply amazed with Twshot. It is much more easier to post your messages to Twitter while you are surfing online.

The good thing about Twshot is that it permanently exist on your toolbar so that you never have to copy and paste long URL addresses to your Twitter account ever again. All you need to do is drag the URL to your Twshot button and sign on to Twitter to automatically update your status. That’s all. That simple!

Twshot website itself is just a demo for the Twshot button and provides the link for you to begin using it right away. You can also watch Twshot demo to learn how to use it in a few minutes.

If you have concerns about security and privacy, let me tell you one good thing. Twshot.com does not store your userid/password in its own database. While you are installing Twshot button, you also download a cookie which stores your information in your PC.

Twshot is developed by two smart Turkish guys, namely Metin Kahraman and Harun Peksen, whom I met during Likemind Istanbul event last Friday. They have recently established their company Angelabs. They simply make your internet dreams come true. You better take note of their names, the guys have potential to become big in a few years time.

Conclusion

If you regularly use Twitter, spend some time watching Twshot demo and start using it today. You will be spending less time when sending Twitter messages with long URL addresses. Go and make your best Twitter shot with Twshot!

I use Twhirl as my Twitter client, which has built in tinyurl conversion. Very convenient.

Ughhh..twitter automatically takes long urls and makes them smaller with tinyurl. If I post a long url it will automatically make it into a tinyurl address and insert it in..it’s nice and neat.

Mert,

I’ve never run into the Tiny URL problem. I don’t know whether it was Twitter itself that shortened the URLs or if the Firefox add-on, Twitterbar, did it. Either way, I’ve never had to shorten a URL myself. It’s one of the reasons I use Twitter. The button in the Firefox address bar is easy to click and I post whatever I’m up to. It also counts characters for you.

Another tool is always handy though, in case an add-on stops working or isn’t compatible with the newest version of Firefox.

Thanks for an informative post,
Sherri

I like to use Tweetburner. http://tweetburner.com.

Tweetburner shortens the URL with a bookmark link (same as Twshot) and allows you to also see how many clicks were made on the link you submitted to your Twitter account. Worth a look.

Mert, what is your Twitter name? In case we want to Follow You? Follow me at: http://twitter.com/michaelhayslip

Hey Mert,

Nice tip, try this service: ping.fm. Current beta invite code - “letmeping”. I have posted on my blog some of the reasons why but if you want to know more - I got an interview with Dr. Ron Capps coming up to be posted tomorrow (Wednesday) and he is The Man when it comes to social networks, etc.

Cheers.

It’s great to have another option if it makes it easier for you. I like Twhirl’s built-in url shrinker but I’ve also used the Firefox extension from Shrinkify.com, which is super easy to use. You just highlight the url, right click, and choose shrinkify URL from the dropdown menu where you always find copy, paste, etc.

Thanks!

thank you sooooo much for this. I will try it out right away. I’m new to twitter, and I’m sure it’s a great tool but, it’s driving me a little nutty trying to figure it out. So I think this’ll help. :-)
