There’s a war going on in the blogosphere between WordPress and Blogger. The war is about being the best blogging platform. Back in March 2008, I wrote Blogging Wars - WordPress Vs Blogger and looked at both blogging platforms side-by-side and see which one you really need.

WordPress is necessary for a problogger, whereas Blogger is enough If you are blogging for fun. Please join my poll and tell me which is better from your point of view. You can find it down the right side of my blog, titled as “Polls”. Thanks in advance for joining!

Though a relatively inexperienced blogger I have tried both. The free version of wordpress is in my view superior in functionality and ease of use. When using wordpress on my own domain I think it is first class. Have just downloaded the 2.5.1 and it looks exccellent. For me there is no comparison.

I’ve used both.

Blogger is nice as it allows one to customize the layout in whatever way one prefers to. The free Wordpress hosting provides pre-made templates only (although with creativity one can make the page look great).

Thing is, Blogger is distracting me from actually blogging. I get too caught up in deciding what layout I’d want to have for my page.

So…I agree with TherationalGod. Wordpress is superior and much easier to use. And actually, the pre-made templates are not so bad…

I still like blogger and have tried both. Maybe I’m just comfortable, but I find it easy to use with enough functionality to make me money!

I’ve never used Blogger before! But ever since I start using Wordpress I was addicted to it and that’s why I’ll always use WordPress! ;)

My site uses Wordpress.

no question, wordpress is far better for serious bloggers.

Paul Eilers April 28th, 2008

It all depends on your perspective and html knowledge.

Blogger is more user friendly, while Wordpress is for people who better know code and language.

I have my Blogger site like I want it, after some serious hours as well as trial and error. So I have no intention of changing.

Plus, I believe that eventually, due to competition, Blogger will implement a few things to give users more options, because of competition from Wordpress.

It’s not so much which is better but which suits an individual blogger better. Blogger is ideal for people who want an easy platform to start with and someone else to take care of software upgrades etc. WP is better for those who want much more control of their blogs and are comfortable with and have time for upgrades and database upkeep. As for looks, I actually admire many Typepad blogs I’ve come across!

The one feature WP had that drew many bloggers to abandon Blogger was scheduled posting. That feature is now close to coming out of draft in Blogger so Paul Eilers is right - Blogger is responding with extra features to stay competitive.

From the experience I’ve shared with others, wordpress has an edge over blogger, at least for now.
