How To Write A Better Weblog
Posted by Mert Erkal on Jan 9, 2009 in Blogging | 2 commentsIn my post How to Write A Blog Post With Lightning Speed I showed you some techniques to shorten your writing time. For a better coverage of fast writing, you shall refer Stephan Miller’s How to Write Fast – From Various Sources.
At this stage, I would like to introduce you How to Write a Better Weblog style guide which was written in 2002.
Apparently, good blog writing shares some points with good general writing, and this great guide advises, humor, style, and simplicity. When it comes to content creation, How to Write a Better Weblog advises making the effort to find original and unique ideas instead of commenting on the same issue everyone else is already commenting on.
I have copied this piece from the guide, because it is inspirational and encouraging:
“No matter what your audience size, you ought to write as if your readership consisted of paid subscribers whose subscriptions were perpetually about to expire. There’s no need to pander. Compel them to resubscribe.”
Always remember this quote when blogging. Make it your blogging motto from now on. You will feel the difference sooner or later.

Ye yes! Hey Mert, I will keep that quote in front of me as often as I write. It’s definitely something to get in mind. You’re right, it’s both encouraging and motivating.
Cheers!
