How To Engage With The Blogosphere

Social Media

You shouldn’t view other bloggers as a threat or competition—in reality, they are your friends. Blogging is about mutually beneficial relationships. The best way to engage with other bloggers is on their blogs. You need to spend your time to read their posts, leave comments, and write posts that link back to them. Here is a good strategy for becoming a more connected blogger:

  1. Research the blogs in your market niche.
  2. Take time to discover the key players.
  3. Analyze their content and try to figure out what their readers like.
  4. Come up with a list of bloggers you intend to target for relationship-building. Start small, just five would be enough to get you going.
  5. Expand your list as time goes by.
  6. Begin leaving comments at your target blogs. Try to make them as relevant as possible. You have to genuinely engage with the issues they raise.
  7. Write posts on your own blog that expand on the topics raised by those on your target list. Link back to their posts.
  8. Continue doing this regularly; soon some of the bloggers you are targeting will notice you. They will begin to comment on your blog and write posts about the issues you are raising.
  9. Keep expanding your list of target blogs and keep working on this strategy for building new relationships.
  10. Good job! You have started to build your blogging business!

  1. If it wasn’t for my blogger friends like you I would still be trying to figure out how to get subscriber or how to get someone to leave a comment. Without visiting other blogs we’re kind of left in the dark.

  2. I love that you have made such an easy list. But, by easy I do not mean that you can just make a simple click and have instant blog fame. I think to many people expect it to be that way.

I always hear that posting good comments takes to much time – I see it as time well spent.

I am try to do #7 as a regular part of my blog. I just keep forgetting. ;)

    Thanks for the tips!

ps. Being part of a community of bloggers does help, I got your link from Brian & know that he would not have sent it out if it was not helpful.

  3. Thanks for the easy to follow tip list. I’ve been blogging for a couple of years and still need to be reminded of best ways to build traffic and relationships that last. I find your blog posts very helpful. Thanks.

  4. Mert,

I love it- I appreciate what Sheryl said about leaving quality comments. I agree, time well spent. :) Mert, when you got a list of bloggers you wish to connect with, plug their work on Twitter, Stumble Upon, Facebook and so forth.

I also like your point about expanding your list as time goes on. No need to hurry. Just relax and make the most of every relationship- this process is not for the faint of heart. :) Thanks for sharing Mert- I agree with CDeering- your blog posts are always useful. But more important, you’re a great blogger and person. This shine through your blogging.

  5. Relationships are vital in any part of life. Bloggers should help each other. I strongly feel that is important to help others. Bloggers have different strengths. The more people you can network with, the more successful your blog will be.
